84 birds, wow! Between that and 3 children, I am sure you have your hands full (in a good way though!) Best of luck with raising your broilers, and continued success of your other flock. I agree, it seems chickens are pretty therapeutic somehow. It seems like they know when you're having a tough day too, as ours will come up and peck you on the pants leg as if to say chipper up!

I hope you enjoy being a member of BYC, and I'm sure these folks would definitely be willing to help with information on broilers or any members of your flock for that matter!

Yes, unless your broilers are still young chicks, they don’t need heat. I live in Vermont, and mine will be outside all winter. Well-ventilated but not drafty! Their down coats keep them very warm. Mine were outside all day in windy rain and sleet, silly girls!

Yes they are still young chicks, only a few days old. We just got them in 2 days ago. We did lose one last night. Looks like it fell in the waterer. Water is elevated but it looks like I might need to add some marbles to prevent that from happening again. I would expect that problem with a bantam. But we had never had a problem with the larger breeds before.
