First Time /Shipped Eggs/NR 360

Got the email from Meyers today , eggs shipped this morn around 11 . Priority Mail , tracking says expected delivery is Friday . From Ohio to NY 3 1/2 days ?? I really hope they show up sooner , I'll also run to P.O. in the morn and see if they'll call me when they get there so I can save them from our mailman , I think he was the same guy that was the mailman in the movie "Funny Farm"
3 and a half days from OH to NY is a bit surprising, especially given how big and popular Meyer is, I would’ve expected them to ship faster. I hope your eggs survive the journey okay. Mine traveled from CA to MA in 2 days (both boxes), and it was just some guy who went to the post office to mail them (he’s a hobby breeder).

Do try to pick them up from the post office yourself if you can, that’s a good plan. Call them right as they open in the morning on the day of, before they load the truck, to remind them. Both of my CA boxes had “CALL ASAP” written on them with my number, and I’d called my post office to alert them the day before, requesting a call for pick up. And they STILL did not ever call me! I could’ve saved my eggs that last bit of trauma, but the PO was not cooperative.

Eggs finally got here , P.O. never called , they went out with the regular mail , even though I went down there the other day and asked them to call me so I could pick up and the label was clearly marked to call me upon arrival at the P.O. ! The label also was marked 1 day Priority Mail . Par for the course I guess . The box was in good shape , overall they were packed very well , 2 cardboard egg trays top of box over foam cylinders and foam sheets over the eggs themselves in cutouts in a thick foam sheet over another foam sheet . Nothing broken out of 23 eggs , all marked as what breeds . I did candle one of the B.O. eggs and one of the EE eggs and the air cells to my untrained eyes look good . I'll leave them sit right in the box they came in until tomorrow morn and then they'll go in the incubator . There is one xtra , my incubator will hold 22 eggs , I'll try to get all 23 in it , I'm not going to candle any of the others at this point , I'll candle them at the suggested intervals after they are in the incubator and thin out as necessary .

I ordered eggs from Meyers in March. They shipped on Tuesday and I received them on Thursday, I live in Ohio, Priority Mail. I was very pleased with the way they were packed. I ordered 12 eggs and received 13, Nine hatched successfully. I had added 9 eggs from my hens and all hatched. So I ended with 18 baby chicks. I am now on my third time to use my Nurture Right. It holds the temp at 99.5 very consistently and the humidity pretty wells stays where I like it at 43 to 47.

I'd take them out and candle, look at and trace the air cell with a pencil, look for any cracks or detached or saddled cells.
Set them fat end up in one of those cardboard egg trays to rest until ready to go into bator.
I always candle eggs before setting, even the ones gathered here(the only ones I incubate).

Good to hear the hatch rate you had with Meyers eggs , and yes , I am pleased with the packing . I ran the Nurture Right for a few days a week or so ago , it held temp and humidity very well empty , hopefully it'll do a good job .

Well I better get busy then and get them done . Didn't want to handle them all that much but I think I might be thinking too much as usual . :D

Nice pack job.

I agree about candling them all before you set them. For cracks, and to know what you’ve got to work with. It was at this stage when I identified and marked my worst air cells, and then wasn’t taken by surprise when they quit early. I also gave them the least optimal spots in the incubator, knowing they’d probably fail anyway. Watch for air cells that move in any way when you turn the egg. The more they move, the lower their chances are.

Yep , gonna do it as soon as I get done with lunch . They were all packed pointy side down and the two I did candle quickly had perfect looking text book air cells up on the fat end . I'll go in the closet and give them a good look and trace the air cells .

Ok , candled them all and traced air cells on all . I had a little trouble seeing the air cell on one of the B. O. (brown) eggs , the one on the far right all the way in the back in picture , also the biggest air cell . I saw no cracks and no saddled or detached air cells . The blue/green EE eggs were easier to see for me at least but I slowly rotated each eggs to see if the air cell was detatched and none were so I think that is a good sign . Now they'll sit , I'll either put them in late tonight or first thing in the morning .
