First Time /Shipped Eggs/NR 360

Got em in the 360 about midnight , temps holding good at 99.5 , humidity is holding low/mid 40's , turner is working as it should . I could not fit that one xtra egg in there so there's 22 eggs . That one B.O. egg with the largest air cell that was hard to see/candle was the one that didn't go in .

Good thinking. Largest air cell = oldest egg.

7 days went by pretty fast . My 11 year old grandson and I took the eggs into the closet and started checking , sorry for the blurry pics but its not easy to get a cell phone picture with the candle light going in the dark . Just took one picture of a good egg of which we have 19 out of the 22 we started with . It was fairly easy to see the veining and the embryo moving around , my grandson was absolutely astonished to see life starting . All the good eggs looked pretty much the same . The air cells all enlarged slightly from what they were on day 0 . Does everything look normal ?

Marked the air cells on all the good eggs and they went back in the incubator

Here is what the non fertile eggs looked like , I say non fertile because it appears they never even started development .

2 BO and 1 EE were non viable , so we have 19 left . Will most likely candle again at 14 days . So far so good . I did toss the non starters after cracking them open to make sure we were seeing nothing .

The good egg looks good. I agree that the clear one looks infertile. Light shell, should be seeing something by day 7.

This is such a great experience for the kids! I had both of mine watch when I candled, and they loved it. We have light-blocking curtains in the bedrooms so we just used the desk in one of the rooms in the evening, it was really dark. I wouldn’t trust the kids crammed in a closet, but mine are a lot younger.

I'll be getting 12 EE eggs and 10 BO eggs towards the end of the month . I have a Nurture Right 360 just plugged it in for the first time today just to run for a few days and get familiar with it and check/verify temp and humidity readings , make sure turner is working and so on . I built my coop last summer and have 6 pullets now , this hatch if successful will go to my daughter who I am building a carbon copy of my coop for starting in a week or two . If there are enough pullets I'd like to keep one to integrate with my flock but we'll see . Any cockerels will go in the soup pot when they start to crow . We are also planing on doing the Mareks Vaccination on any newly hatched chicks ourselves , after discussing with my daughter and researching a bit online and talking with @kokoshka about it , we decided for the price and time investment and good and well being of the chicks it would be worth it to us . I'll have lots of questions along the way , still have a lot of research to do . I'll try to keep everything documented here . I have a digital Hygrometer in a baggie with the salt slurry to get it calibrated so I can check the onboard hygrometer , also have an old analog medical thermometer to check temps inside against onboard thermometer along with a digital thermometer . We also have 3 grandsons living here with us and they are quite excited about hatching out chicks , so it'll be an adventure . Here's the Nurture Right just after I plugged it in , 1st impression was its quiet , I've read that they were a tad noisy , I can hear the fan running but it doesn't make much noise , controls are easy to see , easy to use . Hopefully that will carry on . More to come . :)

Hey I got mine today! Been using Brinsea for a few years, but this one more budget friendly.

The good eggs were all showing veining pretty clearly and the movement of some of the embryos was amazing . The bad eggs we really checked over and cracked them open when we discarded them . Just yoke and watery white , no development . So far I am very happy with the eggs from Meyers , for a first timer I wasn't expecting to see 19 good Eggs on the 7th day candle .
My grandson was really excited , and seeing that innocent wonder in his eyes was a pretty cool thing , he can't wait until the next candle session . :)

Have showed one kid(just not around any) and several adults candling,
the adults were just as awestruck as the kid.

Well , I'll admit I was pretty excited too :lau , but that wild eyed wonder that you see at certain times in kids , its hard to describe but you know it when you see it , its priceless . Now its time to head to the daughters house and work on her coop .
