First time with a broody- hatch day is here-not sure what to do?!!??

That's totally how I have been feeling about my ducks lately!! I love having them so much, but I have been having so many issues that it makes me feel terrible like maybe I should not be the one taking care of these animals... Mostly its been mysterious recurring foot sores, but also a broken leg, and currently too many drakes making my poor girls look like battered wives

). I need to butcher the extra drakes and I guess cull the ones with bad feet that aren't showing improvement, but I just can't bring myself to do it and my husband works out of town all summer so it's just not happening anytime soon...

. Not that I have any problem with it since I also love the taste of duck, but I'm a wuss and also have very little experience with this sort of thing to begin with. SIGH.

But so far I have decided to keep trying with ducks and hopefully will get all my problems sorted out and keep my flock healthy.

I went out to open the pop doors in the coop this morning, and my broody started pacing around the dog crate. So I opened the door to the crate, and she rushed outside. She scratched around in the dirt outside - ate, drank, pooped - and then kept pecking around. It was raining, and I wanted to get back inside - so after about 15 minutes, I picked her up and took her back to the coop. As soon as I placed her back in the crate, she went right over to the nest and sat on the eggs again. Whew! I thought I might have made a mistake in letting her out of the crate. She has food, water and room to poop in the crate - but apparently she wanted a quick field trip outside. Today is day 18. When I've hatched eggs in the incubator, they usually hatch on the 20th day. So I figure chicks might start hatching tomorrow - but probably not till Tuesday.

As soon as chicks hatch and I can see them, I'll take pics and post them. Good luck to everyone who have chicks hatching the next few days.
 
Ida is a little restless this morning, though more like normal Ida than scary broody Ida. She's been talking a lot, changed positions several times and keeps looking around and behind herself. She's even been eating and drinking. Two of her eggs keep rolling out and she keeps pushing them back in. It's day 20, hoping this is a good sign.
 
Was away a couple days and checking up on everyone on here. I saw the suprise about 90????? My son and daughter-n-law just cant get enough! We already have over 100 chickens/chicks and 58 eggs in bators. Our chickens are a joined effort, he keeps buying them and I keep taking care of them. I really have only 15-20 chickens out there! WELL! Her aunt had laying hens for sale and they bought all she was selling, 9 Ameracanas hens and 1 rooster. The lady threw in a banty rooster, (we were needing one!). In the meantime, my friend and her daughter were supose to be getting chicks from this lady too. The daughters young son got bee stung and has been sick, so she had not picked up chicks yet. We picked them up for them as well. Meanwhile there was a mix up on how many they wanted, as the lady had saved them 24 chicks. They only wanted 14! Since I payed the lady for all 24, looks like I just inhearited the extras!!!! Oh well, it's only 10 more and they were only a dollar each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


NOW LET'S DO THE MATH?
