First Timer Looking For Hatch Buddy!

You've got a few days to be positive they are not viable yet. So we'll all keep our fingers crossed, and toes..for ya.

Im gonna candle tomorrow. Gonna be hard to keep my hands off them today but I already turned them and gonna leave it alone until tonight.

I was told my another BYC member to make sure the last turn to have it on the other side from the night before so the chick/embro doesnt stick to the shell being on the same side for that many hours a night. So that is what Ive been doing from day one.

Gosh this is intense! Ive never been so yancey about anything in my life LOL and Im an old woman.

You all enjoy your day...Im going outside to doctor my horse that THOUGHT going through the woods/wire fencing to buddy up to the neighbor horse that was calling to her for 3 days, was a GREAT idea Grrrrrr. Her back leg is a mess and infected. Think its time for ice boots to keep the fever down. I'll check here in a couple hours.

My bator heater has a lot of work to do

The temp dropped to 90 last night. After I was finished watching a music video show,I went to turn the cage-free eggs...AND BOTH MY WINDOWS WERE OPEN,LETTING IN THE COLD AIR.I asked Daddy,"Why on earth did you open my windows?Don't you know if I stay in there too long I'll get cold, and if I open the bator poor Eggland will freeze to death?"(Eggland is the chick inside one of the eggs.Well,I won't know if he exsists until I candle.)Daddy says,"It got hot in your room,so...""Can you please close the windows?"Daddy did,but turns out THE BATOR WAS ALREADY OPEN.So the temperature dropped. The poor chickies are still recovering.

Why do men always ruin your hatches?

Men don't always ruin things darling, it's just that they are taught from genentics and birth to be the provider/protector. So they tend to try and "help", thinking they know best, even when they don't. Yes, we end up wanting to smack them in the head at times, but most don't mean any harm, they just want to be helpful. That being said, tell Daddy that you appreciate his helpfulness, and explain to him what the problem was in a calm and reasonable tone. Even though you want to smack him on the head

Oh no Daisy, your poor horse, hope she comes thru this ok and gets well quickly.

Yup, I've read the same regarding turning, turn either 3 or 5 times, not an even number.

Thank you for keeping your fingers crossed for my eggs, it's not looking good so far, but I'm not giving up hope yet. We'll see on day 10, by then, if there is anything to see, I should definately be able to see it.

LOL you've got that right Carriehelene hehehehe.

My husband , bless his heart always "tried" to help me, even though it usually ended up in disaster and the reason we came to 2 aggreements in our marriage. Last one out of the bed, makes it "house rule" and Men tend to the cutting the grass, changing the oil in the vechicles and fix anything outside thats broken. Leave the rest up to me to repair/fix/do LOL worked out great and no disaster for years.

Now that he's passed, I change the oil. do the lawn and fix everything. Funny how that works LOL

Oh My... thats alot of eggs this time of year in Michigan.. LOL

Good luck, I will be very interested in seeing the isa/amera chicks..

Hi all - sorry been busy so not updated for a while.

WELL......

Candled my 5 black silkie eggs yesterday (day 6) and 4 out of 5 have something going on - saw veins and movement and 1 was very clearly infertile......so broke it open and nought in there.

Candled my 4 orpington eggs aswell just for the hell of it (day 3) and I can't see anything except rather porous shells......i am not optimistic already about these ones.....and they were NOT cheap at all! Send positive vibes to my Orpies please!

So, at the moment.....I have 3 silkies in the bator and 1 silkie and 4 orps under the hen.........will candle all of them again probably tomorrow or thursday.......I can't resist the candling urge!

back later on.....

Im very lucky to have a hay barn with a walk in basement that water doesnt even freeze down there in the winter as its below ground and cinder block. I just moved my 93 meaties down there at 3 wks old in 4 x 4 walk in play pen types (5 of them) that I used with my 22 doberman pups a few years back. Wonderful pens husband made me.

I mean, thier are eggs in the incubator (and the bator heater is on)and your daughter is wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants,so what would possess you to open her bedroom windows letting the cold,in-two-days-she'll-start-school air?
