Peep, the heater, leaving the heater physically in the water after treatment is entirely up to you. The temp should be set to the average optimal temp for the species in that tank after treatment. Any brand is fine.

Chickenfan, I am so sorry to hear that! There are so many things that could have gone wrong. I can pretty confidently say it probably wasn't disease or parasite to happen in one day.
I'm not really pondering it anymore. It happened back in 2011, so yeah, definitely old news. But I'm still pretty sore about that. Ah wel.

Cool thread. :)

You know, Chickenfan, back then there was a huge recall on aquarium heaters. Sorry I can't remember the brand name. If that was the reason you got lucky. Some of the heaters were exploding. A friend had one cook her fish and short out.

Come to think of it, the tan was so large I had 2 aquarium heaters in it. Maybe you're right. Geez, I did get lucky if that was the case.

I would not advise using marine salt. There's much less room for error with it than freshwater aquarium salt. Most pet stores will have freshwater aquarium salt on hand. Also, I still advise separating the tetras if you plan on having your temperatures over 85. White Cloud Minnows prefer cooler temperatures than most tropical fish. They aren't necessarily a "cold water" species but the temperatures required for the above method could stress them to the point of death.

Tetras can handle higher temp then wcmm. Ich is in the TANK. Not treating the tank and everything used in tank maintenance will result in the ich surviving and all fish dying.
