Hello!
I have had tanks on and off for a very long time. Been "off" for about two years....well, got the ten gallon out and bought a heater today! The tank has been running for about two weeks-so getting fish tomorrow hopefully! I'm thinking some danios and mollies. I love those. Maybe a female betta. Anyways, just thought I'd share!

Awesome!

This just isn't my week... I unplugged the air pump in the 70 gallon 'hospital' tank to add a stronger one and forgot to come back.  5 hours later I found 2 koi in respiratory distress and realized my mistake. Currently they are upside down and gasping.

I quickly added 3 air pumps and treated the tank with methylene blue. Of course, now I've destroyed the biological filtration....

Lets just hope these 2 koi recover...

How are the koi today? By chance have you peeked at the gills for signs if gill flukes? The gills should be bright red. Brown is dead tissue and pink may be flukes. You may want to call the vet to see if they have a vet on staff that specializing in Ichthyology (fish).
If I lost a favorite koi I would freeze it until Spring.

All ich is gone, but Pleco is still acting weird! It seems he is trying to get to air, but the only way is through the filter since our tank has a enclosed top. So this morning, I heard rocks shifting, and i just see Plecos tail at the surface! So he was in the filter, he got out when I started to open the filter.

Ideas?

Its possible the Ich caused damage to the gills. I've known of Plecos and bristlenose to swim into HOB filters.

Both koi recovered. They appear normal.

I'll go check their gills now.

Hopefully it's just stress coupled with the low oxygen they experienced yesterday. They've been through a lot these past couple of days with the 60% water change and the 15 degree temperature change (50 degrees in garage to 65 degrees in the house).

Try to resist getting too many fish at once. A ten gallon is small and the chemistry can go wacko quickly.

Have you used that exact stock tank for over Wintering in past years. I'm wondering if heavy metal toxicity is a factor.

Yes, I've used it in previous winters. It's not metal. It's a 300 gallon poly stock tank from fleet farm. With the stock tank is a canister filter with UV light (525 gallons per hour) and an air pump.

Their gills appear fine.

Thanks for taking your time to help me Andi.
