Would a 5.5 gallon tank work for 2 female bettas?
It would just be a 20 gal sponge filter set up. With lots of plants and rocks.

I cant get a large tank right now. And petco has a 5.5 gal on sale which would fit right where i want it to.

I was specifically thinking about getting two elephant ear bettas or two halfmoon.
Or one of each.

Hmm it might work I just don’t know if I would try it 5.5G is quite small and the smaller the tank the harder it is to contain water parameters I would get one betta for now and when you can upgrade get a second.

Would a 10 gallon work better?

My old betta was in a 5 gal.
But was originally in our 75 gal until he started fighting.

Yeah 10G would be fine for 2 just make sure there’s hiding places in case they want to get away.
Ok thanks!
The 10 gal is only $3 more right now so doesnt make a difference for me.

What substrate is best for bettas(sand, rock)? I know i just used some of the gravel out of our tank but its been awhile since ive looked into tank set ups.

And what plants would you put in(java fern, java moss?)

I have sand in mine although I would stay away from white sand the poop is very visible. If you’re going to do live plants I’d look into one of the nutrient rich substrates. Now the type of plants I have no idea I don’t really know much about live plants lol.

I used this stuff for mine. They also make a red one I think. And you can Google betta plant packages and find tons of info and sites selling them.
