Anyone here have pond experience?
our pond is about 14 ft by 12 ft and 4 1/2 deep. There is a Lilly pad planted and some other taller plants. Two trees outside for some shade. There is a pond with a small waterfall. We dumped some cleaner (for the muck on the bottom as the pond was sitting for 2 years), then some started. Both meant for the pond. The pump moves over 2500 gph

We were going to put koi in, but found goldfish to be better.

Is there anything else we need, and would 3 goldfish be enough for now?

I think 3 would be fine. I mean, obviously you could go with a lot more but I don’t think 3 is too small a number or anything. Especially if they grow up and breed lol

Thats my plan.
3 to have 2 females one male and they would breed once or twice and then possibly seperate the male, just so they dont over stock.

Are you planning on draining it in the winter or letting run? You may or may not be able to control the breeding. Once the fish are big enough they will eat all eggs and fry that doesn't have a real good hiding spot.

I did plan on letting it run. We have a de icer already.
I only wanted them to breed enough to give us around 8 to 10. That should be enough for the pond and hopefully not to many.
Otherwise the person who use to live here had a pool he moved inside then took water feom tbe pond intk the pool for the winter. He did koi thohgh.

Goldfish spawn in the 100's. Get bigger fish and eliminate any hiding places, and hope. Mine are big enough they don't leave any eggs to develop thankfully. That one early season I ended up with 50. I was able to give most away. Goldfish can live a long time. My oldest was 22, but I've read even longer.

Yes(like cichlids they spawn a lot), luckily the person we are hoping to get them from does take them if to many spawn.
They are just a small quality fish breeder.
