Five Buff Orpington's

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Buff Orpingtons are a wonderful breed to keep. Very docile, healthy, weather hardy, great layers and live long lives. Definitely use bedding on the floor of your coop. Provide a safe run so they have a place to move around when they can't go outside. Keep the roost bars low to the ground so they don't injure their legs jumping off the roost bar and bed the nest boxes as well. Beautiful photo of your flock, thanks for sharing!

Just acquired five adult Buff Orpington hens.

They're pretty resilient - they seem unfazed by a dog that barks now and then, me running a power drill and saw nearby, or different family members coming and going.

Am I correct that it's important to provide raised areas so their feet aren't in moisture all the time?

Do they need a high roost or just prefer one?

Should they each have a wood chip padded compartment or only if they're going to be sitting on eggs?

No rooster so no sitting for now ...
Hey, I'm new myself. That's a nice flock you have there!
