I was thinking, kind of silly maybe, but it would make a great children’s story, about overcoming adversity. Sweet May is an inspiration, and she is an adorable chicken. Kids would love her!

Like right now.I teared up several times,
Great update. It's fabulous that she had the agency and desire to get to that squash rind.Tonight I had put May in her bed and Su-su on her perch and finished squaring away the big crowd in the front coop, then finished the last of the chicken chores. Luckily, one of the things I do is to check the main run for any stragglers. There was May all by her lonesome, nibbling on a squash rind.
She had climbed out of her bed, flown down out of the rear coop pop hole into the main run, and there she would have been stranded all night. She can come down from a high spot, but she can't seem to get up to the pop hole yet.
So, May got carried to her bed, and I closed the pop hole doors so she wouldn't be tempted to do any more late snacking. This little gal is getting more normal by the day.
