Any idea what we have here and what to do?
She's had this for two months, I treated regularly for a bit with an athletes foot cream/anti fungal but it didn't clear up, might have made it a little worse, otherwise no change.
I'm worried about other girls getting it but no one has yet but one other hen now has black spots on her comb?

hey there high possibility this may be fowl pox this is an excerpt from veterinary cytology report... not able to say categorically that is the cause. Do you have a Vet you are able to take it to
The fowl pox virus infects birds, including chickens. It spreads through infected birds, contaminated equipment and biting insects, such as mosquitoes. Called fowl pox for good reason, it causes white, then yellow, and then finally brown spots on the bird's comb, wattles, legs, mouth and anywhere there are no feathers. Fowl pox will cause the bird's egg-laying to stop or be severely reduced, and it will hurt growth.

They could both have been peck wounds. The antifungal cream applied daily should not make it worse, and if it were favus, should have made it better. However with some comb peck wounds or injuries, I have seen some that have turned white or tan as the comb healed. You could use a dab of coconut oil insted of the antifungal to see if it clears up.

What do you do for fowl pox?

They've been pecking their feathers out for months, I have another thread for that from a while back. Could this be why? (Still haven't figured that out. They get a lot of extra feed & protein) One has a completely bald but, most have no tails. I have four month old chicks who look fine but they're together so I assume they could get this as well?

I would get one to a vet for a look or if it is gone necropsy but freeze the body for tests as you will have it in all your flock infected

Fowl pox is a virus spread by mosquitoes, and there is no treatment necessary. It normally clears up within several weeks, unless there are complications.

I am still thinking peck wounds instead of pox, but may be wrong. You can Google fowl pox for pictures of the different way it looks.

Are your older birds still molting? This is the time of year for it, and would explain tails being gone and feather loss.

Peck wound probably makes the most sence or fungus because both have had these combs looking similar for 2-3 months and no changes, nothing worse, no one acts sick.
Re: molting - This hen looked like this from May until two weeks ago when she was shivering so bad in the cold she finally sprouted half of her feathers back!
Just about the time she got them back I came out one morning and the five older girls all had their tails missing. Over the course of the year I've singled in out one hen at a time trying to find the feather picker but I think they all do it to themselves. I was just talking to my husband and they are 1.5 yrs old this fall and I honestly haven't seen then molt. They just constantly have feathers missing. It's crazy! No one seems bossy.

They eat a mix of Kalmbach layer crumbles (17%) and Feather Fixer pellets (18%) they get BOSS, a little flax meal, oyster shells & grit, meal worm treats, garden and veggie scraps, they have a 100x100 yard fenced for them so they're not short on space either. I haven't seen mites or lice but during the summer when some were bald I dusted them anyway. They were dewormed with Ivermec paste too, maybe a month after dusting (They did have worms) They got probiotics after deworming and I try to give it to them monthly, they love ProBios paste :) They also get ACV added to their water and another bowl of plain water to choose from. I do not understand their problem LOL, ugh....

No one acts sick, but they're driving me nuts with the feathers.
