besides the above, you could trying wetting or fermenting the feed; there is much less waste that way too, and if you are feeding grain, fermenting releases nutrients otherwise unavailable to the birds.

We just use a regular hanging feeder purchased at TSC, made by a Harris Farms. It is the 7lb bell shaped feeder that we bought. We hang it from a hook under their nesting box that protrudes from the coop. It hangs at the height of their back. This has fins to keep them from sweeping feed side to side and a lip to prevent billing out. Only 2 pieces (top and bottom), so easy to clean. We do not have a problem with billed out feed!

I used this design for my feeder https://www.theartofdoingstuff.com/diy-no-spill-chicken-feeder/ and it's been amazing. I have about a 2-foot pipe for my two gals and it holds enough feed for about 3 days. I have basically no waste with it!

Do a forum search for rat proof feeder. A feeder should have an optional feeder lip extender for the problem birds, five out of a hundred will try to flick feed, at least mixed feed, pellets not so much. The usual 1/2" feed lip on a good treadle feeder will stop most feed flicking, the feeder lip extender will stop all feed waste.

I use this type of feeder. We needed a low profile, so we mounted the ports on a narrow container. I only have 4 chickens, though, and two ports.
