Flies in my chicken run.

I noticed today that there are a lot of flies in our chicken run. We have only had our chickens in the run for about 5 weeks. We are using pine shavings over hard packed ground. I saw in the herb and weed article that mint is helpful to eliminate flies. I don’t currently grow any mint in my yard. What other things can I do to decrease/ eradicate the flies?

How large is it and how many birds do you have in it?

Hi there. Fly traps are helpful. Stir the litter, take some out and add some dry shavings. I don't know how often people with runs have to clean, but I rake my yard every 2 to 4 weeks depending on how many chickens I have. You can compost it or toss it.

Must have been something in the air....I had an unusual amount of flies this morning too. So weird.

i use captivator fly trap. it’s a container that flies fly into and can’t get out. when it gets full you can empty it out and refill it or throw it away and buy more. works like a charm

Have you ever refilled we tried that ONCE and it about killed us. I cant do refills lol but disposable all the way!
