Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Hi everyone, my name is sandra, in in upstate New York. I live with my hubby daughter (4) son(2) dog and 2 goats. We’ve had chickens for a couple of years but with heavy hearts we culled our little flock of 5 last fall after some pullets we bought brought in Mycoplasma.
Buuut I’m waiting on a call from my post office today to go pick up my cheeping box of chicks.
I’ve ordered
4 hatchery choice layers females
4 hatchery choice rare females
4 silky straight run
1 midnight Marans female
1 black jersey giant female
1 light Brahma female.
I’m so so excited. I missed my chickens so much. The place seems sad without them. I’ll post pics when they get here. And probably for help identifying.

Hi Sandra, my names Krystal. Lovely to meet you.
Im sorry you had to cull your flock love. But I can't wait to see your need babies hope to see photos soon. :love

I need to go to IKEA at some point. I want a tall lamp to go behind my lounge in the lounge room so you dont need to have a big light on when your just chilling or watching some tv.

We are ok at the moment. It was raining last night but not sure how much rain we got. I woke up this morning and the weather station said 0.9mm but that would have been from 12pm last night and I heard it raining around 11am so I will look this afternoon.

How are you love?
Lol I head to take the lampshade thing/head off of my lamp, the post is about 5 feet tall but I had to take the top off because DS always knocks it over and I didn't want the light bulb to smash.

I am doing good, a bit stressed about the upcoming trip next week to the states but half excited about it. Thank you for asking, sweetheart. How are you doing?

Weather Update:
Cyclone Cancelled but hopefully get some rain.
Yay! Glad you are ok :)

RIP Cookie! :hit
Great Throw Back Thursday love! :goodpost:

PS. I really enjoyed that read hun. :hugs
Thanks Krystal, I enjoyed reading yours too!

Sold my first dozen of eggs today! :celebrate:wee:celebrate
$3 a dozen and have already sold the next dozen in advance
Awesome, business is booming!

The girls are contributing to the coop savings :highfive: Im soooo excited!

Mind the cut on my hand. Cut it opening a wine bottle lol all class here :frow
Yeah! Except for the wounded hand part lol I have this scar on my left hand, a bit bigger than yours and permanent- I have pics but they are too gruesome to post, I got it because I was stuck in the bathroom...because one of those rack things that you can attach to the doors made the door stuck. So without thinking I pushed on the door because I couldn't think of another way to get out...well that caused the mirror that was attached to the door to break and fall on my hand..guillotine style. I didn't have health insurance at the time to get stitches, a neighbor wrapped my hand it healed over time, leaving the scar that is about an inch long. That was 2 weeks after I moved to Canada, September 23, 2015...the 23rd of the month seems to not be the greatest, I just realized (23rd was the day Cookie died too). Well that better not mean I'll have a bad day tomorrow...we are seeing a house at 1.

Yesterday, I was pretty busy, but I was able to start heating up the incubator which means I can put some eggs in today. Since the last update, I have gotten one d'uccle egg, two cemani cross eggs, and three sultan eggs, resulting with a grand total of 18 eggs. I can't wait to start hatching.
Good luck!

Wildlife Update:
The green frogs around here are coming to have me up on stalking charges soon. But I just think they are so beautiful I have to admire every single one.

This darling was just chilling on the ladder to the tank. I was trying to find him some bugs but couldn't. :hit
I just love how green they are.

Those frogs are beautiful, I love frogs- I've always wanted one but have had 2 firebelly toads that look like frogs with warts. One was green and one was brown.

We get the green tree frogs at school. They are like the size of those bars on the ladder Krystal! Massive!

Also you guys! I have a Auracana X Brahma
Her name is Katie Kluck
She is the blue pullet in that pic below

Welcome, Sandra! How exciting!

I've frequently done it, when buying... But still staring at an email from someone wanting me to ship chicks to them. Just having a hard time warming up to the idea.
Me too, ordered a lot of mailed chicks but once I had to rehome mine I called the airport with zipcodes of people that were interested just to see if they would ship to them...I ended up finding homes for them locally.

Thanks guys. I’ve never done mail order before. I’m a bag of nerves. I just want them home with warmth, water and food. To think of them traveling in a box:hit
Hi Sandra:frow.. so happy for you and it sounds like you’ll have a lovely flock!
Yes, and the thought of those helpless babies shipped in a box:oops:
Hope all arrive safe and healthy :fl

Well... Chickie Mama... you are a bad influence ... I have decided to get a pair of ducks!! I would like to find call ducks or some type of bantam.. if that’s what they’re called? And hopefully two females.. if there is a way of knowing while babies? Soooo, we’ll see what I can find:fl... hoping to find babies at the same time I get my new chicks so I can just keep them together...

Good morning/evening :frow

Don't mean to be a spoiled sport, but best for ducks to be in their own brooder. Ducks need a water dish deep enough to clear their nares and baby chicks can drown in water that deep. Also ducks preen a lot and tend to make a wet mess of the brooder. Once they are about three weeks old, they can come together without issues.

Okay.. good to know.. I was hoping for some input so thanks!
I have raised baby ducks .. plenty.. but not WITH chicks.. I have raised a total of 12 ducklings.. 3 here.. 2 there.. etc .. never more than three at a time.. all successfully without heat.. cuz I really was just guessing:oops:.. also, no internet at that time..
Although, this time I’d rather do it right.. even though all was well...
Thanks again!

If you have these beauties you will also have the snakes that like to snack on them. :) When I was a kid [a civilized Sydney kid] I used to holiday in sunny Qld & the shower was outside ~ a cement slab under the water tank. Loads of green frogs ~ and pythons! :D
