Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Brought some of Luna’s poop into a lab to get tested for worms.
Crop still isn’t empty, I’m going to try giving her some liquid paraffin this evening. I read that the liquid paraffin will clear it overnight, it’s worth a try I suppose.

Good evening/morning :frow
Been quite busy, but I'm actually interested in getting ducks. They're not going to crow so I'm very interested in getting a little family (drake and... female duck ?) of them. I don't know that much about raising them but I plan on researching them for the rest of the day. :) Any information or tips welcome.

Edit: I'd plan on getting a new coop and run for them.

Female ducks are just called ducks and your correct on males being drakes. A pair can work, but I'd rather have multiple ducks to keep overbreeding at bay. If you want quiet you should get muscovies. They are definitely quiet compared to mallard derived breeds. A quick wing clip can ground them easily. If you do go with a mallard derived breed, then you should know they, especially the ducks, can be extremely loud. Muscovy drakes hiss and ducks kind of lightly honks.
You can look on YouTube to see what kind of sounds they make.

If you get ducklings use a milk jug for water. Have a side cut out low enough to get their heads in but deep enough for them to be able to submerge their nostrils so they can clean them. I give ducklings a bath within the first few days, right after they start to explore and thrive. A warm bath then a towel off will keep them from getting chilled.

I hope you have fun with your duck journey!

Farm Update:

Well this morning I go out to feed my cat and she is rail thin! The little booger had her kittens last night!! I started freaking out as we are possibly having severe storms today and I had no idea where she had them!
IMG_3034.jpg
So I stalked her and found paw prints on a skirting panel that got dislodged from Saturdays storms, stinker had them under the house!:barnie DH told me to open the access door and put food under there for her, tomorrow we'll go under there and find them and bring them inside or place them in a safe place out in the barn.

Fed and checked on the Chickens this morning and everyone looked good! After cat searching took some shredded carrots out and I find this...

Our first egg!!! I go to grab it and I'm growled at, :th
IMG_3041.jpg

She's already started to show signs of broodiness! :barnie (i looked up the signs last night) Since she was in a flock with several Roosters, should I go ahead and let her? or should I try and break her of it?

Here are some other pics from this morning:

Mustard, just not sure about me (until I brought the carrots)
IMG_3043.jpg

month old girls kinda unsure of these larger ones, but in love with their carrots :gig
IMG_3047.jpg
Little babies enjoying breakfast! (Mustard has been pacing by them, I picked up a Charred, who loves being picked up and getting chest rubs, and Mustard looked concerned)
IMG_3055.jpg

Cajun got up from the egg but when I moved towards the egg she became agitated. Should I go ahead and collect it from her? Will she attack me? I didn't expect eggs so soon after the move or for her to go broody so soon! looking up how to deal with broodies now :caf
