I learned about this from a friend before I got chickens but I know there are quite a few people on BYC that use sand too

When we first had chicks I made my partner introduce them to our old dog tank. But he loved them like crazy.

That is so sweet! Lacey loved my first batch of chicks also. She would just sit there and watch them do their chicken things but this is the first time I have ever seen her be protective over them and I am pretty sure it’s because she knows that the younger dog is a little extreme at times . Did tank ever get really close to them and watch them?

I am always sweeping the coop out because I hate the smell also. I hear a lot of people use sand and they say it’s the best thing they have ever done. I have actually been putting down Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade on the floor to act as a deodorizer and it has actually worked. I am also making a poop hammock to hang under the perching area. My chickens are usually out all day and come back in before sunset so the only poop is really under the perch so that makes it easier to clean .

My partner just came into the bedroom and told me work wants to send him to America again for work but for 5 weeks this time. Last time was a week. I said that would be cool are you going? His not. He said he won't leave me alone at all. And he missed me too much last time. Its a great opportunity so see if he changes his mind.
