It started off sad... all our hatching eggs failed But ended with a cooling storm that had all chooks running to coop... i went to close door and this morning realized the new girls had run in with the others!!! And everyone got along all night!!! (The barn is close to coop so i see how they got confused) Cajun accepts Sundae(my new Australorp) and they roosted together! I'll give everyone electrolytes and vitamins mix... but new girls been here a week and no digns if anything, but I'll do vitamins just in case and keep watching.

This morning we moved feeders and waterers out into the run under the tarp to encourage the silly birds to go stay outside, instead of steaming themselves in the coop. Plus fire ants bad!!

We had to sell off many of our babies due to bill issues so we're down to 20 again. So it's been a roller coaster over here!! But got a "class pic" before!

And sunset after storm was gorgeous

They were able to hear eachother and see from a distance... it looks like accidentally interrogating works good for us I've told the kids no more chickens... it's just too hot and I'm not 100% still. I don't mind doing hatching eggs for now but yeah... I gotta get this run done and the duck area too.

I keep hearing that hens go broody often... I've had my sussex for several months now and notta! I'm kinda bummed... maybe when more start laying she might go broody?

My girls are mostly first generation mixed breeds and have been the broodiest chickens I've ever had. I'm not used to having so many broodies, just one here or there. never like this. I think the only reason I don't have and broodies right now is because they've all had their turn! Out of the 10 standard girls, I believe only one hasn't been broody.

My mallard is starting to fly...i have diagrams on what feathers to clip. Any tips? Preferred clipping instruments?

I trim my Muscovies wings after each molt, once or twice a year. I find it much easier with two people. I hold the duck around its midsection (close enough to the duck's feet, basically under the legs, not to get scratched if they start struggling) while someone else trims the feathers. I use some decent scissors to trim. I've used old kitchen scissors and some personal trimming scissors before.


I'm done with broodies! (for now)
Nothing has really happened, just happy healthy chickens.
