Flock Management Failure

Poor Mom.

Thank you for sharing your story so that the rest of us can avoid this very painful mistake.

And, though it may be tacky given such a sad topic, I have to say that I smiled when I saw "lots of nice weeds in the yard." that's a phrase only a true chicken mama would ever say. Clearly, you are 100% devoted to your girls.

The tractor has the top covered with shade cloth, which I thought was enough, but obviouly not enough temperature difference for the Buff Orpingtons.

I am so sorry

It is really obvious from your photos that your girls were well loved and cared for during their time on this earth.

What a terrible accident. I'm so sorry. Shade cloth would have been enough in some places. The heat in Arizona sure is fierce in the summer.

I have a timer that's on a cord that I can wear around my neck. It helps me remember to check on various things. Before that, I used to carry a little pill container that had a built in timer in my pocket. Otherwise, I just don't always remember. Sometimes, time just gets away from us, when we're doing other things.

Sooooo sorry. Maybe u could try a heavy tarp to give them full shade. We have 100F+ here and mine do great. I secured it thru the gromlets with shower curtain hooks. Of course I use frozen water bottles too along with the occas frozen treat. Maybe this will help ur other chicks to be more comfy.
