Flock Question

Keep in touch an let us know how it’s going.
Will do. She is coming soon. But has said she would take both males to keep them together I just have to send a second female. So that would bring her new flock to 5 and mine to 3 until they accept my younger 3 bringing our total to 6....we shall see. I hate giving my babies up :hit She knows if she has issues in the spring with 2 males, I will take him or them back but they won’t know me anymore...

Although we are talking about ducks I just gave some kittens away and thought they were going to be so sad to leave there mama(who I have). Soon after that I get text and videos of the kittens in there new home...they move on are fine forgetting what they left behind. Your ducks will be ok...:thumbsup

They may not know you but it wouldn’t take them long to fit in again.
So far so good. Sad kiddos and me, confused flock here (though the 3 left quacked at the fence for a moment but still just ended up back in the pool like nothing happened lol) but the pics and video she sent looks like the other 4 are doing just fine and her lonely duck was happy to see friends. (The black and white ducks were mine)

That’s a great picture. What makes this all better for the ducks is they still have each other. For us we feel the loss more because we’re the humans. Happy it all turned out so good!
Today the 3 I have left seem out of sorts (I’m sure they are) They won’t forage unless I’m out at the back of the yard pretending to forage too and they freak out for a few minutes (very loudly) when I go inside at all. The girls just sit in the pool staring out over the yard and the drake just paces around the pool and patio (the pool is currently on my patio). Are they just feeling unsafe in their smaller number? If they would just integrate with the 3 week younger ducks they would have a flock of 6 :idunno

It will take a few days. Mine have taken a week to feel better and having the 2 younger with them has helped. Just know they will integrate it just takes time. Do you let them all be together?

Yes, they’ve been outside during the day together for 2 weeks and 5 days ago everyone moved into the coop together on the same night, but I ended up putting a wire divider in because the 7 were really picking on the younger 3. I know pecking order and stuff but at the time there were 7 vs 3 and it just seemed like a lot to leave to chance overnight :idunno The last 3 nights I’ve put them in the coop and let them peck at them for a bit then slid the divider in and left them separated for the night...should I just leave the divider out and let the chips land where they may? 2 of the littles are crested (not my choice) and I also don’t want them to have the crests pecked at because they are easy to grab.

Just keep up with what your doing. My 4 do fine during the day in a large penned area [I have a Runner drake I don't trust around my 13 week old females] But if I try to let mine sleep together at night the two oldest pick on the two youngest which is 9 weeks difference. So they sleep in the same place but there is a divider separating them. Since yours have crested I'd keep it the way your doing until yours get larger and are able to defend themselves better.
