Flogging TINY Banty Roosters

Thanks for the tips everyone.
I absolutely adore these little guys and I want them to be as friendly as the rest of my tiny ones are.
I did get flogged by Boudreaux this evening so I picked him up just talked to him and petted him for a few minutes-when I set him down, he just went on about his business instead of coming at me again.
The other one that flogged me(Cletus) jumped up in my lap to get some chopped grapes this evening-he hasn't ever jumped up in my lap for treats.
My husband thinks it's the names I gave them that is making them flog me.

dieselgrl48-I don't have any small children around otherwise, I would definitely try to rehome them.

Sadly enough sometimes when we make pets out of our chickens they regard us as equals or lesser instead of dominant figures. It is always wiser to make pets of the hens and treat cockerels like chickens so that they maintain that level of respect. Not sure how to address this situation, but it must be done. Their behavior will increase and others in the flock may follow their example. One spur or claw to the eye or face can do serious damage. (Even from these little guys.) It's just a short leap from the back of the chair or your lap to your face. The problem with dealing with multiple aggressive roosters is that while addressing one the other will see an opportunity to attack. Sadly, my experience in dealing with aggressive bantams is that depending upon the breed or strain within the breed some are impossible to rehabilitate. Good luck.

I love you Sheila, you know I do, but I'm sorry. The idea of dealing with a flogging banty after dealing with nothing but LF brahmas has me

I have no help to offer other than to re-assert yourself as the dominant figure in the barnyard.

I love you too, Kat, but I knew when you posted on this you were gonna be laughing at me!
It is pretty comical, but I just can't let them keep it up-I am hoping to show these little demons and I'm not sure the judges will appreciate a flying roundhouse kick to the face by a 22 oz. rooster with a MAJOR attitude. Bwahahaha.
Hey, by the way, I'll be in El Dorado, AR in February for a show-if you're anywhere near there, we need to get together and have dinner or something!

Have you ever read my BYC page on rooster reform? Might help, can't hurt.

Don't live close to El Dorado, think: Texarkana, but Feb. is a ways away, so I might could manage it. I would really enjoy that.

P.S. Soon you'll be able to laugh at me. I am 100% positive my little silkie is a roo and I'm not sure how I'll handle that little monster flogging me.

what are rescue broilers? I am presuming chicks that would have been sent to the meat plant. How do you 'rescue' them and from where?

OT - Rescue broilers are what I call my little meaties. 19 chicks (now 18

) that were destined to be culled from a commercial chicken farm because they weren't growing at the rate considered acceptable by the poultry company.

that is so awesome- I love the idea of rescue chicks. Good on you.

I wanted to update on my teeny floggers and find out if anyone has ever had this happen.
1 of my little boys stopped flogging after being carried around, ignored at treat time, etc.-he leveled out nicely.
My other boy(Boudreaux) still tries to flog me on a daily basis, however, what has been happening in the last few days is that my other banty roosters start attacking HIM when he flogs me and also, a couple of my big girls will either peck him or get between me and him when he is trying to flog. Is this normal behaviour? Are they actually protecting me or what? I feel like I have 8 body guards now when I go out to the coop area.

Hey Woman, if I understand chicken psychology correctly I don't think it has as much to do with protecting you (as nice as that sounds) as it has to do with reprimanding him for being an upstart and not remembering his place in the flock.
Could be wrong, but that's my interpretation of it.
