Definetly go with some type of raised floor in your coop (2 or 3" is fine). I use 6" wide deck boards and space them about 1/4" for drainage. Wood chips go on top of that. Our run is a large covered area but I put scrap plywood down and wood chips on top. Chickens love to scratch and dirt bathe on the raw ground. This is OK when it is dry but it can be muddy during the wet season.
