FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

If you want to sell them, I would stick with purebred. You can work on developing your own chicken, but most people will only pay good money for a particular breed. If you are going to breed make it something you love that does well here in Florida. Make sure you are willing to cull your flock before you start producing extras. They may not all sell no matter which breed you choose.

which purebreds do YOU think are good in florida, sell well, and personally, I like the less common....do you think the showgirls or the NN pures? Or do you think a different breed all together. Like a heritage breed or something flashy/exotic like the sultans?

ANYONE is welcome to weigh in :)

I think it depends whom you are selling to. Buyers at a local auction house, and the buyers at BYC are totally different.

chicknadventure it's hard to keep all the breeds that people like, if you want to eventually start selling some of your birds, i would suggest you get breeds that you really enjoy and like, and it might be even harder to sell poultry that came from Hatcheries.

I sugest buy from breeders since they concentrate on that specific breed of chicken you might be interested in.

I went crazy buying every chicken that I could get but once I knew what I wanted I had to sell all my hatchery birds, and there's nothing wrong if you want them it just wasn't the way I wanted to go.

I only have 3 different breeds of chickens Naked Necks,BLRW and English Orps But I do have lots of colors and I really enjoy and like the breeds that I got. and if some one wants to buy some from me then I can help then.

Like Stan he's been begging me to sell him some of my NN but since I haven't he now gives me a hard time about them

I made my decicion on the breeds that I wanted after I went to my first poultry show, and now I try to breed for a Champion NN, and I will get it!!!

Where do you send birds to get necropsies done? I need to find out exactly what kind of respiratory ailment I am dealing with.

I know there's a state run animal disease lab in Kissimee. It's $30.00. I know there is another one but I forget where. I found it under Florida Dept of Agriculture. I called them and they emailed me the papers and instructions. They are thorough as well.

Thanks-my 2 experiences so far have been interesting in purchasing.....one lady I bought from ordered eggs and hatched them-her babies are healthy and friendly and doing great. The other lady had multigenerational lines, etc but her farm was dirty and the chicks were stuffed in boxes and apparently, had lice. They are skittish and fearful.

ITA, go with what you like, but not sure what I like yet? I thought I was going to love the aussies, but the one i got from the second breeder is less than impressive. Sebrights are so so so gorgeous, but what I REALLY liked was a Porcelain Duccle that the second lady was in the process of breeding, she had one rooster and one hen. LOVED those :0

Since you are in Florida, is there any breed you would recommend NOT getting?

the UF also has a vet office where they do that too, it's located in Gainesville.

I have had really bad experiences with some breeds but those are just personal, I've seen others here that just love that breed.

you will have bad and good experiences but I think all chickens can adapt to the fl weather specially the NN they can survive any where.
