FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

This is so sad, and apparently not the first time something like this has happened.

There are some people who put small padlocks on their show cages and take them off when the judges are judging their isle. It's sad. I hope whoever took the bird returns it. We put a lot of effort in raising them and getting them ready to show. We love our birds...

Hello! We are in the Fort White area -north of Gainesville and south of Lake City. Have a brand new flock of 8 Java's. Hoping only one is a cockerel and the rest pullets. Time will tell! We just moved here from Tennessee during the summer (record hot days - how stupid is that?) and got our chicks a month or so ago. 4 were 4 days old, and 4 were 3 weeks old. They are getting big and starting to look like real chickens now. One is a white Java - she (hope she's a girl!) is the fearless leader and gets into everything first. We call her "Whitey" after Whitely Bulger, the gangster.

From the picture the white chick looks like a pullet to me.

We are hoping she's a pullet. I was looking at some online info about Java's and saw that the white is recessive, and that you have to work several generations to get it to come out. She's so pretty, not that the others aren't. They are all a bit different, and already have different personalities.

We are not anywhere near experts, and had to trust that the breeder knew what she was doing. She only has Java's and Serama's, so we are confident that our chicks are actually full Java's. She compared wing tips and we could actually see what she was talking about with the different shapes. One of the larger ones is supposed to be a cockerel. She said to look for tail feather development - faster in the pullets - and one of the larger ones has a nothing tail going on compared to all the others. Also, that one seems to be standing taller where the others seem to be more horizontally balanced at their legs. Don't know if that is a sex-based difference!

They all are happy and healthy, and we hope they will do well.
