FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

That is where I have had my best hatches. I have had 100% but usually an egg or two doesn't hatch for whatever reason.

Its about the same luck i have had doing with higher humitidy , but we just bought this house and the room i have the incubators in isnt insulated so at times my humitidy goes up and down and side ways lol because of outside temps so i was just wondering if my humitidy is already low it then i shouldnt have as many issues but the past month my hatches have been awesome but im just wondering if i should experiment i guess would be it

I have done a lot of experimenting over the years and that is what has worked best for me. If you are having great hatches that's great. There are a lot of people who would like better hatches. I think most manufactures of incubators suggest too high of humidity during incubation and sometimes not high enough when the eggs get set for hatching.

Just a reminder of our Dunnellon Tractor Supply Company Farm Swap, 11252 N Williams St, Dunnellon, FL. this Saturday April 9th. Maybe you you have chicks, chickens, guineas, rabbits, goats, pigs, ducks, geese, turkeys, other livestock, plants, crafts, tack, old farm equipment to sell. I will be bringing a couple of egg turners that will fit most styrofoam incubators, eating eggs and some Rhode Island Red females. I have a Rose Comb Rhode Island White cockerel available for sale.

I broke down last night and clipped my baby's wings. I thought they would stop jumping the fences after they realized they get separated from the flock and that's not a fun experience. Evidently chickens don't learn well.

Why do I feel bad about doing something that had to be done?

Hey everyone! I'm Colin, new to BYC. Just moved to Brandon, FL and finally have a yard; no chickens yet, but soon, hopefully!
When I was a child, we'd get chicks through the mail in enormous numbers to raise for meat. But how would I go about finding just a few young hens? If this is the wrong thread for the question, let me know. Thank you!

I have had to clip wings too and evidently did clip them short enough and had to clip them again. It is amazing how they can figure things out with their little bird brains. I have one RC RIW pullet and her name is Houdini, can you guess why? Since I have been putting up the welded wire she hasn't found a way out of her pen YET.

Hi welcome and all that jazz, Colin. Good luck in your chicken adventures to come! Folks here are great, friendly and packed full of advice, 1,000 places to get chicks around Brandon. We get ours from a breeder. He's a bit of a drive from us but my wife and I love taking drives so that's a plus. He's got good healthy stock and he's honest. Passed the Manatee Fish Camp on SR 64, sings out front by the gate.
Folks post swaps, auctions and what all here all the time. Have fun!
