I am a stay at home mom of two daughters--12 yrs and 9 yrs old. Married for 13 yrs. This is the 2nd time we have tried to raise chickens. Last year we got 7 chicks from the feed store. Only one survived--her name is Mrs Cluckers. She is a NHR. She has layed 3 different times--egg amounts ranged from 21-39, non fertilized. We got 6 more chicks around the first of March. I was told there are 3 EEs, two RIRs or NHRs and one Orphintington (SP?) I think they are about a month old. Right now we are still keeping them inside in an unused bathtub....we were gonna start letting them out during the day--then the storms started! We did have them out for one day--in the coop with Mrs Cluckers, but Cluckers wasn't liking it! LOL Cluckers has been free range and roosting on our front porch and the first night we were gonna keep her in the coop, she FREAKED out, so we let her out.

here are some pics:

Bad day in Palm Bay! During this afternoons storm neighbors dog came in my backyard and started killing chickens. So far 5 dead and 1 injured. Heart is broken, now I have to tell 6 year old granddaughter what happened. This were her "girls".

Oooh Carol, I'm so sorry to hear of your chicken losses! What has happened with the neighbor, and their dog? I pray for comfort for your granddaughter, that's a tough thing to bear at any age, especially when so young. I have some young chickens 10 weeks old if you want to drive down to West Palm Beach for them.

Hey Nava, what do you think of this chick? Someone gave it to me with a batch of other chicks they had hatched at home for their kids to see, but couldn't keep. It's 9 weeks old here. Do you think it's a pullet? Are they supposed to have that patch of feathers on the front of their neck?

Carol, I'm glad the police were supportive of you. I hope you won't have trouble with those neighbors over this dog. Is Animal Care & Control involved? Here are some pix of the young pullets I have, there are 2 Americanas and most of the rest are mixed-breeds. I'm trying to sell the pullets on Craigslist. But Carol, I would give you a few if you wished. I should have more later in the summer, so keep it in mind.
