So, for prolific layers in Florida you are leaning towards BO's & EE's over austrolorps or BR?

I like the Br, Aussies and Delawares for backyard layers. I don't think they can keep up with the red sex-links for production though. Man, you guys have been busy today!!......stan

HI! I am a newbie from Lakeland Fl :) I have 6 chickens now, but adding some more. I have a question: Here in central Fl, which are your favorite prolific layers?

Barred Rock
Copper Maran
Black Australorp

woo hoo! I am putting together a pretty "impressive" group of mutts :) I think I will like the mutts best myself. Soooooo Maybe one Austrolorp and one EE. I can put both of them with my Turken :)

Of these I've only had BRs. Mine are 3 hatchery + one "good one" ha ha.. they lay consistently. tigercreek has or has had all three, some Australorps for sale, I do think...

I have a poodle that would get very sick when I put that stuff on him and it didn't work on him either but the fleas loved him. I read somewhere to give him Apple cider vineager. I use braggs with the "mother". That is the only thing that I have found that works. He hasn't had fleas in years and my groomer was totally amazed and she tells her other clients.

Beware of Advantage too, it killed my 7 yr cat.

I don't have austrolorps, so I don't know how they lay..... I have 2 BO that lay for 2 weeks before they take a day off. My EE laid 6 days a week. She isn't now because she has babies. She was a great layer. I have 3 BR and only one lays really well...

I have to disagree. My BOs lay a couple days an take a day off. And quit altogether in the cold weather. My best layers are Leghorn and Leghorn crosses they seldom miss a day. EE's come in second. My White Rocks, Aussies and Brown Leghorn are still chicks. But I'll let you know.

I love my Wellies ( Welsummers), nice dark large to x-large eggs. Have 5 hens, get 3-4 eggs a day right now. One went broody and just hatched 1 Ameracana, 3 Wellie, and 3 Doms all crossed with FBCMaran. I can' t wait to see what they will grow up to be. Hope for some pullets. Right now they are black with yellow. My Ameracanas lay large to x-large eggs.
