I was wondering, will there be chickens for sale or just show and judging like we ran into at the strawberry festival? I really need a few more girls around here
I ran into the daughter of one of the organizers for the poultry division in the fair- I'll try to catch up and post an answer to the question of whether any of the chickens will be for sale. Perhaps after judging is over and ribbons/awards are handed out, so I guess you'd have to be able to get in touch with the owners. That's what I did with some hens from the Strawberry Festival- going to pick up mine after they're done showing.
Meanwhile, the latest problem here in Central Florida is that Code Enforcement is after chicken owners in R1 / developments- we are at the front end of needing to get the county ordinances changed to allow 5-6 hens/no roosters in a coop setting in our neighborhoods if we can show that well-kept, cooped hens are not a nuisance and no more prone to avian flu than the cockatoos, macaws and cockateels people put out on their patios, we'll have hurdled one of their biggest arguments against backyard chickens.
OK, I started this thread very long ago. I that I was feeling guilty that Texas has it better together than us. I set up this map so that everyone can place where they are located.
