Florida COLD

It was 25* this morning at 7 and I had put heaters in all the coops then stapled plastic bags over the doors. Checked on them last night before bed and they were nice and warm. Checked this morning and all were fine. I didn't let the babies out of the coop this morning. Will do so when I get home and it's warmer. All the water we left running had ice hanging from it this morning. The horses had licked a hole in the ice to get to the water. But we should be back in the 70's by the weekend!!

Oh no..hopefully they made it

the humidity here makes it feel even colder, add the strong winds blowing over the water and it just bites right through as many layers as you put on. I work outside at the airport, worked last night and it was freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing. i had 3 shirt and a jacket on and the wind was ripping right through.

it's not like i grew up in the south either, i spent the first 26 yrs of my life in northeast PA.

We have had 2 friends from Sweden visiting for the past week, we have had two snow storms, and I don't think it went over 10 today! Tomorrow they will head to NYC and then Fort Myers, FL on monday, followed by Miami and Key West... they are hoping for some beach time!!!! I will cross my fingers!

north of tampa, florida--29 degrees. last night i put a plastic tarp and 2 comforters over the tractor my 5 weekers are in with a 250 watt heat bulb. they were fine.

Everything is fine. The Hova is hooked up to a UPS so that kept it going till DH could start the generator. I grabbed the newly hatched babies from the bsmt brooder and put them in a box by the woodstove-they were quite toasty. Took two eggs that were about to hatch out of the hatcher and put them in a box on damp towels in front of the woodstove. Then prayed the power would come on before the generator ran out of gas! It stayed off about an hour is all. Whew! What an emergency drill that was!

I was born a Yankee...orginally from Pittsburgh but now live in Concord, NC. It is terrbily cold for me 13* tonight- Way too cold !

How cold is TO COLD for my girls? When should you get a heater going for them in the coop? They all cuddle now (9 of them)?

We went down to 2 in the coop the other night - my girls are fine - no heat - all depends on your set up, how large your coop is etc... (I have 14 chickens - coop is 20X8 - dirt floor using deep litter method.)
