I have 4 Dominiques, 7 Rhode Island Reds and 4 Wyandottes. I adopted 2 mixed hens and a Naked neck rooster. One of my Dominiques turned out to be a rooster. He is the sweetest one of all of them. My main piint in this post is about one of the mixed hens. All my hens are layers not brooders and that was an intentional selection when I got them. The mixed hen is a brooder but, is not welcome to join with the others. They literally attack her and run her off. My question is why? She is not really social with them or people-could that be the reason? Anyway, if you have any thoughts, please share them.

Welcome to BYC! All additions to flock require the flock to establish pecking order and this is the flocks way of telling her she has to submit to them. As a new arrival she is likely on the bottom of the pecking order. As long as mostly getting along without blood shed it is ok to work out on own. If injury is happening, may have to remove temporarily the aggressive one to drop the aggressive one in pecking order and then reintroduce. Hopefully picking on her stops. Make sure have plenty of space. 4 sq ft per bird in coop and 10sq ft per bird in run. 10-12 inch of roosting space per bird in coop and out in run. :welcome
