Love him! 😍 Look how round that boy is!

I'm working with the silkied variety of Cochin bantams at the moment, focusing just on BBS for now. 🙂 Y'all can see my birds in my thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/breeding-silkied-cochin-bantams-to-the-standard.1555327/

What are some colors that you guys would like to 'make' in BCs

Less so making them in Cochins in general, but I do really want to silkie-fy several existing varieties and project varieties of the breed. High on my list for that is Chocolate, Mauve, and Bobtail, but of course I first have to actually get my hands on the smooth versions of those to cross them in to my silkieds. I think a silkied Birchen and related varieties would be gorgeous, too, but I really like the birchen varieties. :love

Blue silver birchen, duck wing, partridge
Lavender silver
Lavender laced gold
Lavender laced silver
Blue laced gold
Blue gold birchen, duck wing, partridge
Blue red any pattern
Blue buff any pattern

Pretty much Lavender and Blue on any pattern with any other color it can combo with.

I am suddenly fascinated by the idea of a duckwing patterned Cochin. I think I've only really seen the pattern in skinny little game-type birds. 🤭 Those other varieties sound lovely, too!

Blue silver birchen and blue gold birchen both exist in Cochins already, though. Blue gold birchen is called Lemon Blue in Cochins, but I can't remember what blue silver birchen is called. Silver Blue maybe? I don't think the variety is in the standard yet, but I have seen them in show.

I forgot to tag you! If I could silkify a variety, I would do either gold or silver laced. I know the feather type would muddy it up, but would be really interested to see what it does with silkie feathers.

Ooooo that sounds like it would be really pretty!!!!

That was brought up on my thread at one point! I agree, it would be an interesting look if nothing else. 🙂 I think the difficulty would come mainly in perfecting the lacing after outcrossing for the silkied gene, since as you point out the silkied feathering will sort of muddy the pattern up regardless.

I can see some lacing in some of my silkied Blues' feathers, though, especially the hackles of some of my boys. Wyatt, for example:

What does BBS stand for?

Apologies, that stands for Black / Blue / Splash. Since each is produced in breeding Blues, it's easier to just refer to them collectively as BBS 😅

I figured it might be fun to have a thread for my BCs since I decided i want to start breeding them. So here are my birds:

Angel, my first BC:View attachment 3609253
The rest of the flock consists of 3 of the blue rooster and Angel's daughters, some that I got from hatchery's, and one that's kind of an oddball that was the only one to hatch from some eggs I ordered
One of the daughters:View attachment 3609254

I think I will focus on breeding for body type more than color for right now. But I probably need to add more birds that aren't related to the flock.

And I would love it for other breeders to share their birds!
I'd suggest you get her a chicken saddle so she has a "shield" for her feathers to grow back. I also breed and sell. Only I have BYM and Light Sussex! How much did you make if you sold any chicks? (if you'd not mind me asking) Iade over a 100€ this year! However I made an admissional 250€ from selling exotic finches and doves!
