I'm thinking the "stench" of the fly bags is attracting flies that otherwise wouldn't be in your area.

I just purchased a Rescue disposable fly trap bag... Its an absolute disgusting stench but some of the flies still prefer fresh chicken poop. I thought it was working the first day , but today i saw quite a few flies...
I would check the bag to see if there are any dead flys in it, but im not willing to accidently spill it on me

Looks like DH will be recruited for that job

The wrong kind of lime will burn them, in any quantity, I have read. I use pelletized lime, too. No foot problems, and definitely helps with odor. I believe it has some sort of coating, and the pellets are tiny so they filter down into the litter readily.

Many people use DE for controling smells, helps to dry out the poo quickly thus, no smell. Diatomaceous Earth (DE)..might be misspelled though! I use it for drying out the poo and any other bugs around and in the litter!

Pelleted ag lime (like limestone), not quick lime. I use it to sweeten the garden pH a bit after moving the chickens around on it all winter. We don't have much smell, but I rake out the roost every week, and the run every other week and compost it all. That heap's too hot even for flies. Just add water to a pile of chicken poo & it'll cook!

I used those traps last year. The bait looks and smells like fish food flakes gone bad. Flies loved it, but I couldn't stand to be in the yard wih them. I do like the molasses idea, though.
