I had a fly strip early on in my coop until my little cockeral got tangled up in one. I had went around the front of the house to fill up their water and when I came back around there he was strutting his stuff but I seen that something wasn't right. I thought "Oh Lord, he's broken his wing or something" but further inspection he had got caught in the fly strip! He's a pretty calm fella so I help him between my legs and untangled him. From my experience, until I got my leaky roof problem fixed I had a terrible terrible problem with the flies. The moisture I suppose gets the flies a breeding like crazy. Since the roof if now fixed I don't seem to have that much of a fly problem. I did hang a fly strip from the two corners that I could very easily reach of my coop. It does seem to help with the fly count and it's amazing what all other type of flying critters you catch on those things!

I was watching some young turkeys the other day, and they are so quick they can catch a fly off of a little poo or something and not even get their beak dirty. Got me to thinking if there was some way to trap flies and not have them stink and rot, some way to trap them and incapacitate them some way to feed them to the turkeys. maybe spray them with cooking oil or something first. here is a gratuitous picture of the turkeys that got me to thinking...

Haven't seen a fly in over a week. Fly population was halved in a day and gradually declined to close to zero over the past two weeks since the vanilla tree went up. Worked so well I cut one in half and put on each side of my sliding back door. No flies sneaking in home recently either.

I used these on my back porch where there were a ton of flies thanks to the brooder that is out there. It is a screened in porch so I have no idea where the flies came from but anyway I put up three of them and by the next day the flies were all gone. I was amazed that it actually worked and even three weeks later I still haven't seen any flies out there.

I use fly strips also, they work the best. I noticed that a little bird had, at some point,m gotten caught on one in the coop. he left some feathers behind. none of my hens have ever had a problem but mine are up at the highest point. (A-frame roof). I was having a TERRIBLE time with flies because of soo many broody ducks in the coop. i was picking out bad eggs when i found them but i guess they just liked the ducky smell in there. they were those nasty tiny ones too
