FLYSTRIKE!! I need info *GRAPHIC PHOTO

I just lost my Rooster to this today. He had a wound from a cat I believe. So awful. It happened quickly and I had never dealt with it before and am very new at raising poultry. I definitely wish I had known all of this information as I would have handled it much differently. I do think DE would be ok in this situation EXCEPT on the open wound, but I may try to put it lightly around the rest of his body that is not open and rub it as close to his skin as possible, along with putting it on his bedding to discourage more flies. I really hope he pulls through!

Oh my god... I’m so sorry for your loss... he will always be in our hearts😔

Late, very late, update: My roo is fine, but being the roo he is, he doesn't stay in the coop at night. So I check him for any bugs before he comes in the house every evening.
I'm so happy for you! It's been like a month and a half I believe since flystrike and my rooster is STILL healing! It's been rough but im not giving up on him. He acts perfectly normal..I just resorted to keeping my daughters old underwear on him lol
