FLYSTRIKE!! I need info *GRAPHIC PHOTO

I have zero faith in DE, and I certainly wouldn't put it on an open wound, although admittedly, in the relatively dry environment of outside the body and with such a soft-bodied insect as a maggot, that would be one of the few times I'd expect it to work.
I had heard that DE worked on insects with hard exoskeletons by going underneath the shell and drying it out, so I wouldn't think it would work on maggots.

How's your rooster doing?
My rooster is doing great! Just waiting until his wound completely heals to let him back out. I'm afraid he'll attaract flies again so I'm waiting as long as I possibly can. But his wound looks really good! I would say hes pretty much back to normal. He tried escaping the shed yesterday while my back was turned lol hes been crowing like normal too. I cant believe I saved him!

Can you believe it? Jaffar has fly strike. found him this morning covered in maggots. 6/3/2020
I'm soaking him, picking off the bugs, soaking again, the maggots are hard to kill. He was fine yesterday afternoon, but today WOW EMERGENCY! Now I know my rooster "DOES" have that problem.
OH NO!! Can you get the screw worm spray where you live? That worked wonders for me..my rooster is completely fine now

Try to Remove all food sources, and the flies will lay their eggs elsewhere. Pour boiling water over maggots to kill them instantly. If you want, you can add a cup of bleach and 1 1/2 cups of hydrogen peroxide to a gallon of boiling water. Dish soap works great as an insect repellant and/or insecticide. Sorry to hear about Jaffar, hope this helps!

If I can be of any help to you dont hesitate to message me! I would reccomend not soaking him..as that did nothing but make the problem worse for me and they ended up on his back. But do what works for you! If you have access to the prozap screw worm spray I would definitely reccomend getting it. It's relatively cheap and it works. I posted pictures of it above!

We delt with this a few yrs ago washing it is good but then you literally have to suffocate them put something like Vaseline on the wound cover it in a layer of it like your sealing up with Vaseline remove him from the flock the other chickens will try to eat the maggots and unintentionally kill him put him where they can't get to him or that flies can't get to him next day rinse off Vaseline put dawn dish soap on the Vaseline it will dissolve it then rinse the wound out again and put more Vaseline on it do this for 3 days then just keep Vaseline on it for a few more days then just let him heal make sure he is totally healed before he goes back to the coop so sorry your dealing with this poor chicky
