FLYSTRIKE!! I need info *GRAPHIC PHOTO

Another thread just popped up titled OPEN WOUND WITH MAGGOTS, the OP on that one said she smeared antibiotic ointment on the wound (after washing the bird) to suffocate the maggots and they came crawling out. Have we gotten @Eggcessive to check in on this thread yet? If you are going to use triple antibiotic ointment, be sure not to get the one with pain reliever in it, just get the plain one. The pain reliever is not good for chickens.
I had no clue antibiotic cream suffocated them!? Darn. Well my screw worm spray is doing a pretty good job for now. Does the cream actually kill them or will they go crawling to other parts of the body like I had a problem with?

Ointment, not cream. The greasy stuff, like vaseline. The answer to your last question I don't know, sorry. Just sharing what someone else said. Can you use the search feature here? My phone/ device won't let me cut/paste any more. I used-to could, but it's been removed in a so-called "upgrade." 🙄

That's what I meant! Lol yes I can use the search feature. I'll have to check it out

I'm pretty happy with Mr Roosters progress this far..he seems good this morning. Eating and drinking normally. I let him walk around the shed while I fed the other animals this morning so he could stretch a little. I thoroughly inspected him and found ZERO live bugs on him! His wound has a small amount of drainage on it today. Wasnt oozing or anything. Looked like a clear drop of fluid just sitting on the wound. So I flushed it out..I hope things continue looking up for us!

I posted earlier with a link from The Chicken Chick where she suggests to spray with Vetericyn or use Betadine in the bath water, squirting it up into the wound. She suggests not using antibiotic ointment since it makes the wound moist which maggots like. Here is the link under treatment:

I am blad the screwworm spray is working well, and hopefully this nightmare will be over soon, so that you can get him healthy again.

I thought that's what I read too from the chicken chick that ointment would make it moist! That's why I went with the spray. It seemed to have dried it out really good and deter any other flies from coming near him. I'm hoping the same exact thing! It's so weird not seeing him around the yard. I'll be deep cleaning the coop this weekend and treating it with the screw worm spray as well. Although he doesnt spend much time in or near the coop since they free range. Just gonna get it ready so he can hopefully be back outside soon
