The permethrin is safe. I wouldn't spray it on the duck, nests or eggs at that dilution, but everywhere else I would.I was sure if the permethrin spray would be safe around eggs or hatching duckling K. Poultry protector is a chemical .

I read some reviews on Amazon that said that the ingredients in golden malrin had changed and it did not work well anymoreI might try some Golden Malrin fly bait. Put it in a place up high away from your animals.
There's also a natural product you can use in the bedding to keep fly populations down.

Be very careful with the following stuff though. I do use it.

That is likely the reason! That's possible. I may have an old can.
It could be due to this.

I just checked and the can I have is 1% methornyl.
She decided to lay her eggs next to the food and you can see the nest is under some wood I screwed to the fence to help protect them. I do think netting and a spray is going to be my best options. Can you tell me where (in the pic you posted) the nest is? I was thinking just trying to be creative about basically surrounding the nest with the screen? Maybe moving food and water in there and just opening it up for a little bit a few times a day. I imagine she isn't trying to wander too far if her babies are hatching right now, and this will cut down on time the hatchlings are exposed to flies.
Yeah, I included a pic of that in my post because it’s what I’ve been using. It catches a lot but there are still so many. It was 100-105 all summer. So sorry this is happening!
I agree, without totally cleaning her nest, its going to be tough to get any ducklings to hatch and stay alive.
Another thought, in the meantime, is I tried one of these for the first time this year, and was amazed at the amount of flies that it caught!! Half full in just a couple of days! Like 5 bucks at tractor supply or Walmart. If you could hang one near enough to attract them away from the nest, but far enough away to get them away from her, it could help.
Good luck!
Ok, thank you!@Breemae123, when the others hatch remember to check their umbilicus for fly eggs and/or maggots because this is one of the places that flystrike is seen on newly hatched chicks and ducklings.
