One of my 6 hens has Flystrike. The maggots were in and around her vent. I soaked and cleaned the dirty area and removed all the maggots (hopefully). I plan on doing this repeatedly for the next couple days. Some of her skin just below the vent is raw. I cleaned up this spot and treated it with Vetericyn. I isolated her last night from the rest of the flock. She was pretty traumatized but made it through the night. She isn’t moving around much but I’m hoping for the best.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can you recommend any other measures I should take?

Thank you!

Pictures are helpful. Here are a couple of articles, pretty much cover it...as long as you make sure they are all gone, and none reached her abdominal cavity, she has a good chance. You can use plain neosporin or plain triple antibiotic ointment to the raw area, keep it covered in the ointment and moist, reapply as needed. Make sure she's eating, drinking, monitor droppings, you may need to clean her up depending on damage to the vent, the ointment will help keep it from sticking. Sometimes oral antibiotics might be needed, you can get amoxicillin without a prescription online as a fish antibiotic, Aqua Mox.

@coach723 gave you very good advice. Since maggots hatch out for some time, repeat the soaks at least twice the first day and repeat until they are all gone. Permethrin spray in chicken coops can help treat flies once a month, but try to keep vents clean and droppings picked up as much as possible in hot weather. Good luck.
