Foamy discharge gluing drake’s eyes shut

Did you try warm compresses? I just had my Dachshund to the vet thought she had an eye infection vet said allergies so I would think it could be. But I’d def get him inside if he can’t see to get around it makes him prime target for anything. Get some Terramycin eye ointment TSC usually has it or Veterycin eye wash.

White foam can be from not cleaning his eyes good, dunking his head. It’s called Foamy eye.

Thanks! I’m going to bring him inside, do some compresses and head for town, then. I’ll write those meds down and pick up one or the other.

I soaked his eyes with the saline solution. I did have to wrap the tip of his beak up with vet tape to protect the innocent.

On the positive side, it worked a heckuva lot better than plain warm water. On the negative side, the discharge returned right away and is now looking a bit yellow. :( Headed for town.

Got him all eye-gelled up. His eyes weren’t glued shut this time. Hopefully this does the trick. If he gets a respiratory infection I’ll have to do some research and find out whether they become carriers forever. If that’s the case...

He’s a little cutie. That said, as affectionate as I feel toward them, my birds are livestock. I’ll do my best for them, but it doesn’t make sense for me to take a duck to a vet (they’re really pricey around here). If he gets better and has no other complications he’ll get a leg band so I know not to use him as a breeder (because of his weak eyes.) That means eventually when I get some girls he’ll go to freezer camp and unless I get more females than I presently plan to, at least one of the other three will go, too. But until that happens I’ll do my best to give them all the best life I can. :)
