Fodder setup

Wow! That looks great!

X2!! I like the thinner "bricks" that the gutter system makes!!

The system is working nicely. I have ran out of barley and waiting for the feed mill to get it in Monday. So will start off fresh again. I am going to try for a bit more tilt on the trays and water more, less often, this round. We have a wood stove for heat and so it stays pretty warm in here, sometime too much for the fodder I think. Although it is in the coolest part of the house, beside the basement. So I think by letting the trays have more time to dry will help also.

I have had only one batch that was bad I think what caused it was, not getting the tray rinsed well after the bleach. The seeds didn't grow hardly at all and they became slimy (causing me to start a new thread: Help! I think I poisoned my hens!) They have decreased their egg production by about 10 less eggs a day since the feeding. The shells have been very hard and production was doing great....Rabbits and chickens have just loved it. And I saved alot of feed cost this past month too. Pleased with the system, as long as the hens come out of it!

We have just started growing our fodder. We started the first week with doing it in trays, then we have made the flood and drain system on the wall. We will see how this works out, it will be automated soon. Here are photos. Feel free to ask questions, I will help where I can.

I like that! Are the rain gutters easy to remove for cleaning? I'm a fastidious kinda girl!

I like the idea though, and when you have limited space this is a great solution. I think I will set one of these up too in the rabbit area just to see if I can have another way of getting it further out of the house!

  1. How long are the gutters?
  2. What is your starting amount in cups for the dry seeds before sprouting?
  3. When you automate do you plan on recycling the water or have fresh brought in with some sort of drain system?

Can't wait to see the pictures when you automate.
