Food inc...

The part I loved was the guy running his "little" farm and processing the birds outside. The gov't said his place was unsanitary. Yet his birds registered some really low number. While ones processed in "real" processing facilities were head and shoulders above in amounts of bacteria etc even after baths in god knows what.

That's where I think we've lost it. The gov't is so rabid when it comes to stuff like this.

That guy was Joel Salatin. He is truely a self sustaining farmer.

ETA: Yeah, big brother only wants to pick on little guys. All those people in charge of the FDA, USDA, etc. are former lawyers, CEOs, or members of Monsanto, Cargill, and big cooperations. Makes me think which side they are really on.... the public or big companies?

Just a side thought... but I never had food allergies before; in/around '98/'99 I became allergic to chocolate. Discovered it was not chocolate I was allergic to, but rather an ingredient by the name of Soy Lecithin. Interestingly, my sudden allergy seems to coincide with the same time the round-up resistant soybeans hit the market. Also, of interest is that my food allergy doesn't act like a typical allergy, but rather something more like my body ridding itself of a poison or pesticide... Hmmmm... something to think about anyway.

Check out "FRESH" at freshthemovie.com. Movie is beautifully filmed, very motivating. Joel Salatin is in that one too.

And if you'd like a quick read, check out "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan and "Food Matters" by Mark Bittman.
