I did a recent test between Purina and KTA on bobwhites and coturnix. I had better egg production with both breeds on the KTA. I split 30 chicks into two pens and they are now 7 weeks old. The ones on KTA laid their first egg 2 days shy of 6 weeks, the others laid at 6 and a half weeks. The ones on KTA weigh about half an ounce more. The KTA is a breeder with 22% protein mixed with soy meal, oyster shell dust, and the adults get some 22% protein scratch. The adults get 28% protein and the chicks get about 32%. Seems to work a little better. Still can't decide if I should switch completely or not.

Oh, and the bobwhites aren't laying yet...

Well, if you mix anything with a commercially available feed product, then it isn't a fair "FEED TEST"! They should stand on their own.

For the record: There is no such thing as 22% protein scratch feed! By definition: Scratch feed is way less than 22% protein. It's cracked corn and maybe some wheat/oats or wry. This is where people that raise game birds and people that raise chickens get all defensive!

Scratch feed is for chickens...not for game birds!
