Food Scraps?

My chickens turn their beaks up at potato peels...maybe if I cooked them? They love purslane which is a weed with wonderful nutritional properties (known to Mexican cooks as "verdelagas"). They are the richest plant source of Omega3 fatty acids. Any scraps that are high in protein are especially useful during moulting...helps them produce feathers faster.

My chickens don't turn their beak up to anything...Even rotten noodles!

It is a good thing for the planet to give things to chickens instead of the dump.

Can someone here post some pics of their chickens that eat table scraps contains meat and pasta and all that and another post some photos of chickens fed strictly on a scratch and layer feed diet please? I'd like to compare for future reference on my own flock. Thanks :)

Here are my chickens that eat both feed and table scraps, I will even sometimes give them chicken but not too much.

for instance, here are some of mine fed on layer feed, scratch, and whatever they free range on like bugs, grass and such. If I could add leftovers with meat, that'd cut my expenses in feed I could imagine.

According to a World War II poster it was everyone's duty to have at least 2 laying hens per family member. "Chickens don't need alot of work - keep their water clean and feed them leftover kitchen scraps" was the quote on the poster. If it was good enough back then it is good enough now. My chickens aren't picky and love the "treats."

Here it is!

I have had birds for 26 yrs. We give ours scraps however, they cannot contain a lot of salt or seasoning. We give them bread, pasta ( no sauce ) fermented grains, left over fruits and or veggies, pumpkins old , NEVER FEED POULTRY TO POULTRY !!! AKA chicken to chicken. Duck to Duck.
No chicken to duck
or duck to chicken
nothing related.
This is how disease is born.
You may use animal protein stick with fishes and or cattle. That is all I recommend.
Honestly the get protein if you let them out on their own.
Honestly letting them out is the best thing you can do for them.
