Food, suggestions, and ages

Very good info Eggsighted only thing is with them growing so big so fast cutting protein till after 10-12 weeks can also help on angel wing.
It's my understanding that there is not evidence protein is actually what causes angel wing, just a suspicion??

On the Purina flock raiser, none of my ducks experienced angel wing and I never fed anything else. But I absolutely am here to learn and KNOW many people have different experience. :thumbsup

My Pekins don't go out to Forage. They're inside emotional support animals. We do take them out but they don't get much foraging time, outside is mostly for the pool and to get some sun light. We have too many predators around (I live in Florida, and we have a colony of wild cats) to keep them outside long.

Thanks for the tips. They enjoy peas but didn't seem to enjoy the greens I've offered before. I'll try offering some other vegetables and of course some grit to help them digest them. They have grit offered already but don't seem to eat it at all.

I know its all speculation some say protein [which no since taking the chance] but others seem to think genetic. So we shouldn't breed any ducks that have angel wing to keep from passing this weak link on. I don't know just know Flock raiser is an excellent feed and even though it has adequate niacin levels duck feed has 80what ever you call it so even though it has niacin for some ducklings it still isn't enough and then we need to supplement.

They eat the grit when they need it.

I understand your worried about predators but you are getting them outside just make sure they get to go out daily it's also good for you too, you could get a dog X pen to let them forage in and move it daily or weekly then at least while you outside with them they would be safe.

Yes, with the chickens... I have found many who say (fear monger even) excess calcium (or protein) fed to birds not in lay will cause kidney issues and gout. However I have came across people on here who never fed anything but layer and have birds including roosters living way past 8 year old. While others will have their chooks start dying at under two with confirmed kidney failure. Turns out it is OFTEN genetic related BUT accentuated by excess treats (in most cases). I too figure why risk it and feed accordingly. :)
