Food, suggestions, and ages

(this % would be based on weight of protein in the weight of a serving of your feed).
I get where you are coming from, because I am a MAJOR over thinker and went through this exact process to figure out the % amount of fat and protein in an egg. I can say that weight is completely irrelevant and it is the caloric value that matters in this instance.

If based on weight 6 g of protein out of 50 grams total would be ONLY 12%. And fat 5 gram out of 50 grams would be 10%. When the egg virtually all fat and protein those numbers JUST don't add up.

But when you use the caloric value... 7 grams of protein is (YES) 28 calories. 5 grams of fat time 9 calories is 45 calories. 45+28= 69. 28 out of 70 calories IS 40% protein. And fat at 45 out of 70 calories is 64%. Those numbers DO add up. And no way do I believe that an egg is only 8% protein and 7% fat. So as HARD as I went round and round with myself over that calculation several months back trying to make sense of what my chooks ARE getting when I feed them an egg... THIS is my understanding. When it comes to added nutrients, yes they may be added on a per weight (not serving) basis to the feed like the niacin being 55 mg/kg.

What you are aiming at is getting a % of the weight... It won't give you an accurate picture. IMHO.

But I appreciate the chance to reason it out and to be challenged in my thinking to learn something new! :thumbsup

They are just what they are so unless your noticing skeletal problems bowed legs lameness I would try not to worry. They will finish growing and be a large bird but that’s what they are. Yes they were produced for the table but an awful lot of people have them as pets.

I'm gonna go ahead and beg to differ, Please let me tell you what my brain says... If peas are 77 calories and the protein from them is 18 calories... Don't birds eat to meet their caloric (energy need) and not a certain volume or weight per say? So 18/77 calories being protein would make that about 23% of the total calories coming from protein. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong?

That being said if feathers are made from 90% protein, slowing down their growth by reducing overall growth *could* prevent angel wing. Reducing protein and increasing carbs might slow the growth of muscle and add fat instead (I don't know for real). I would suggest using a lights out routine... IF that works for ducks, I put my feed up at night and did so when I raised them. Yes, I realize chickens and ducks have different nutritional requirements... all information I gave was relevant to ducks, I think. :)
What type of peas are you basing your information on?..I'm talking Human grade Peas...

I have started this thread:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/calculating-protein-percentages-of-eggs-and-peas.1251407/
There we can continue the protein % of eggs and peas.

It's been a lively discussion at the thread she started to further this whole how much protein content is any particular food.

I don't really care what grade the peas are... I would use the nutritional information that was available for whatever it was I using at that time. Many will have slight variances even the same exact pea grown by a different farmer can vary in it's nutrient value some.

Please pop onto that thread and see if you can make heads or tails of it. :)
