Selecting an antibiotic when you don't know what bacterium you're targeting is risking wasting money on something that may not work. Amoxicillin and penicillin are both what they call "broad spectrum" which mean they can affect almost all kinds of bacteria, but penicillin is kind of an antique drug that saved tons of lives when it was discovered, but has since caused lots of bacteria to be resistant. Also Penicillin is formulated to be more effective as an injectible (breast muscle on chickens). If that's all you can find, I would buy it and inject it.

I have a 875 mg amoxicillin.
If I were to use 250mg and make it two servings....I would have to divide it into "slices" of 200 a piece? It would be a bit strategic. Lol.
Otherwise, could I shave it down to be an appropriate amount.
Not getting better.
Just force feeding now to keep alive. Alert, but no strength.

How big are the pills. Technically if you are able to split the pill 4 ways that would get you 219 mg "pieces".
Unless you have a scale to weigh it, probably the easiest thing to do is crush up the whole pill add it to something like a small amount of liverwurst, mix well, then divide the liverwurst into 4 equal pieces. Make sense?

I'm sorry she is declining. Do you know how to tube feed? That might be an option for you. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ures-updated-9-15-2016.1064392/#post-18827506
Sometimes despite our best efforts, these sweeties just are too sick to recover and they continue to fail, it can be a hard thing to do, but quality of life also needs to be considered.

Not to get too technical, but for future readers:
Amoxicillin dosage is 57mg per pound of weight (125mg/kg) given 2 times a day.

So far, so good.
She is still alive.
I may be giving her more than required....those pills expired 2015.
Anyway, we are learning at this rate...so, whatever happens, we hope for the best.
I mix it with water, cukes, various seeds, oats, and spaghetti pieces.
3ml syringe down throat....maybe 5 at a time.
Poo on her own today. More solid than runny. Yay. Didn't stink near as bad.
Vet says there is no cure.
I will try anything and lyk.
Prayers are invited....

You can get 3 1/2 doses @250mg out of that 874mg amox. I'd use it.
Whats a good calorie food to give?
