food

Dog food isn't that high in protein. Cat food is though. In small quantities, it's great for a treat. Chicks dig 'em!

a decent quality KITTEN food is even higher in protein that just regular CAT food...but use it as treats only. It wasn't meant to be a food source for chickens.

Cat food contains other things that your chickens do not need.

I feed Purina Flock Raiser...I think it is 20%...have fed a mix from a feed mill that was a Turkey/Game Bird Mix that was 24%.

Give them a can of Mackerel once in awhile...they would probably love it. Plain yogurt has protein and is good for their digestive system. I feed cooked pinto beans or blackeyed peas. I feed BOSS which is 14 to 15% protein plus it has fat that helps with their feathers. Am also feeding alfalfa pellets that are about 15% protein to keep their yolks a deep yellow.

Good luck!
