FoodKiller's chicken journal!

After 16 hours at home, we are going back to the emergency in an other hospital with 103-104fn fever. We wait for 1 more hour to give her some meds to drop the fever because its a long way to the hospital and i think she should not travel with such high fever. This time it could be an other infection that we got in the hospital or just the UTI came back again. Also the ultrasound showed a double urinary tract in one kidney that caused the UTI and as i read through the internet, we must go through a surgery to correct that otherwise it will get worse and worse. All our clothes are dirty from being in the other hospital, we will get wet clothes to dry in the car. Nothing seems to be going ok, its a nightmare, my wife is more calm than me this time, i am not calm i feel like i will end up in the psy clinic if we dont find a way out of my daughters problem soon. I never was more nervous in my life. Everytime we take a responsibility as parents we go the wrong way and make things worse, thats how i feel, and thats how it is. Also i feel i am sick too, like a cold or something, i feel dizzy and cold but i have no high fever yet, just a little higher than normal.

What have we done to deserve to go through this, my daugher looks like a lethargic chicken and does not eat today, this day was like the other day before we went to the other hospital.

In the other hospital i went to the church and prayed for my daughter to heal fast, it didnt work, we got a bad ultrasound instead and now things are even worse than when i prayed. I was never a very religious man, but now i am also sure that there is no higher power than the one in ourselfs, which i have totaly lost too.

So dear BYC, i will be gone for some time again, if the security in the other hospital does not kick me out tonight. There was no security in the other hospital and i could stay too along with my wife, but normally in the other hospital only 1 person stays with the patient and my wife never left our daughter out of her sight and will not do that now.

If they kick me out, i will come back home and will be opening another thread about our daughter to discuss our problem.

Thats all for now, i go back to my family

we got a cold from the other hospital, the doctor diagnosed. isnt that GOOD news? i am so happy my daughter has a cold and its not the UTI infection giving her the fever. we are all back home playing with the baby chick, it doesnt matter that its 12:30 midnight

Dear journal.

There are several people working in my house upstairs, finishing the tiles work, finishing the window/door frames, and painting. Early in the morning i went outside and let my chickens out to free range all day, but i am sick and stayed away from them, i got back in the house and closed the garage door (thats actually our main door right now in the semi-basement where we still live until the house upstairs is ready).

The rooster and the dinosaur(top chief hen) dont like that. I could hear them all the morning making some war songs. I got out to see whats up because that was going on for hours, i really thought it was the egg song in the beggining, but it wasnt. The rooster was up in a wall, staring at the painter and crowing at him, the dinosaur was inside the coop running around and yelling "BOK BOK BOK INTRUDEEEEERS" but loud, i mean VERY LOUD, that was making the rooster crowing at the painter who was holding a very long stick with the paint roller and painted the walls outside, the other hens were just hiding in the weeds. There were no eggs, all this noise for the... intruders! They are still very upset and crowing but i left the garage door open so they know i am here now and its a little bit better.

Yesterday, i was passing by a local feed store (not the weirdo farm) and bought some grinded feed for my chick and quail. They had some chicks
big_smile.png
. I asked if they are meatbirds but a wise looking old villager man told me they are mutts for eggs and meat. I asked if he can find me a pair of pure meatbirds and he told me that it would not be smart to get pure meatbirds in my area which is VERY HOT in the summer, he said i should have bought meatbirds chicks on cristmass and slaughter them by now. Well.......

I told him i didnt want to slaughter them but reproduce them with my incubator and eat their kids. He said they cant stay alive through the summer here

He said they become huge and never stop eating, but so do my hens that arent huge. Another man there agreed with him that meatbirds is a bad idea. They almost made me change my mind on meatbirds, almost

. My logic says that they will be fine as long as i can provide them with their needs, shade, proper coop, some wet soil to chill out. I cannot do this right now but i will when i transfer my flock to the new coop.

My chick is growing so fast. I couldnt resist and even tho i am sick i picked up the chick and took some photos, i hope i didnt infect it.

Hello dear journal

Everything goes well around here, we are -still- "almost there" to finish the house upstairs and move, the spring is skipped and the summer has already kicked in, crows still own the biggest tree of the hill where they start chasing the hawks high in the sky and make battles where you barely see them, but i think the hawks are learning because i saw another one two days ago flying just over my property and watching like a hawk, he saw alot of people and moved on but made a loop to skip going near that huge tree, that hawk was the lucky hawk of the month that does not get spotted by crows and makes it over my yard. I love my *guard crows* and how they interact with chickens, i thought the crows dont care about the chickens existance but i changed my mind because in fact all the crows that pass by when they are above my yard, they crow, propably to my rooster, not me. Crows are wise birds that live many years and for me maybe the smartest bird in the world.

But who cares about that?? I bought 2 more chicks! I have some photos but i havent got them on the computer yet so i will post them once i got them. I bought them to hang around my hatched little chick and play or just go on the chicken lifes problems together
big_smile.png
One of them is a little bigger than the other which is about the size of mine. It really looks like a gigantic chick, thicker legs of my HENS on a chick, how is that even possible. I didnt bought meatbirds, which was even gigantic-ier (lol word) but they really look strange to me, from the other hand i am not familiar with the whole chicken thing and i dont know how much chicks could differ other than the photos i have seen here.

In the beggining they all stayed in the cardboard box used as a brooder, for about 5 days without going outside, to meet each other. Now i started taking them outside, the weather helps in doing that. I keep them inside the "mobile run made of clothracks" shown in previous posts, with water, their feeder and a square pot to use as a shelter if needed.

I have let the gigantic chick to free range to see how my flock acts and the rooster attacked the chick biting it at the neck and propably wanted to..show her who is the rooster. I chased him and gave him a good lesson, i can tell you for the next 2 days my rooster was tame, but i dont feel good beating up my rooster for being a rooster so i chose the other way and keep them locked or let the chicks free range when the flock is locked up. The baker also attacked my hatched chick after seeing the rooster running across the yard at full speed to attack in rage his daughter!!! That time he didnt even want to mate or something, it was a plain mean attack. I am worried and i dont want my own hatched chick to die of a stupid cause like "chicken attack".

Months ago when the dinosaur was pecking the heck out of my -young back then- rooster i didnt mind that much, but my hatched chick is different and i dont want it being pecked so young. Once she grows and gets in the flock (very soon) then she will have the power to take on the pecking until they re-arrange the pecking order.

Enough blablabla i need some water now.

Goodbye dear journal!!

PS:The photos will be in my next post here, not sure if its today or not.
