Hi there,

I have never yet, in my 7 years of raising my friends, had any foot issues. Then today I noticed my Jersey Giant Roo limping and favoring one of his feet. I took him in to have my son take pics. I googled chicken foot injuries or diseases. And I just dont know if it is bumblefoot or not. Any advice would be so wonderful. Hes a good boy. The 3rd pic is his normal foot....

Did you feel any heat or swelling that might indicate injury or infection? Does he pull away or react like he's in pain when you touch or feel.. differently than standard protesting? Find any cuts under the foot? His age and standard feed including treats and supplements? How high is roost? What is the landing? Sorry so many questions.. just trying to help look for clues!

Also, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Thank you for a reply! I'll get him again and check under it. I had touched it but I was so afraid of hurting him I barely touched it.
He is just about 1 year old. The bedding is a plain non dyed wood shaving. I'll measure the roosts height but I know it's not too high. Maybe 2 to 3 ft up. I'll see if I can take a pic of underside. I know it must hurt when he walks and stands. It breaks my heart because he is such a good roo.

How old is he? Does he hold the leg up or does he put some weight on it? I would limit his activity in a pen, dog crate with food and water, or a room. He can have 1/2 low dose 81mg aspirin once or twice a day given orally or in a small amount of food.

He is almost a year. He does walk around but with a strong limp. I tried taking a video to post but it isnt the right format I guess. I have a coop I use for isolation so I will put him in there. I will have to get pics of the underside of foot tonight because when I try and catch him I can see it early distresses him and the limp is way worse. So just normal aspirin? Or should I get baby aspirin?

Here is a photo of his foot again. I do see what appears to be a cut or pimple thing on top. Nothing under. I did separate him. Does this mean it IS bumblefoot?

Low dose 81 mg aspirin 1/2 tablet, also called baby aspirin, although it isn’t used in children anymore. Does he hold the leg up or put weight on it, or drag it? It does look like a small lesion on top.

He holds it up. He will walk on to but with a limp. Today I noticed him spending more time laying down by his hens rather than standing on it.
