For People In The North East......* Heat Wave* & *Bad Storms*

We have a/c only in the computer lab and library and we never get out early for the heat. Never have in CT in any of the schools I've attended or worked in.

People from the north that move down here laugh at us for getting out of school early when it snows or ices...y'all get out of school because it's hot???

We don't have snow plows and salt trucks to get the ice/snow off the back roads that's why schools close here. Do y'all not have AC in your schools?

Many schools up here don't have a/c. UUsually the kids are out before it gets oppressively hot. But the heat usually works well.

I remember my first winter in NC. I was pulled up to the main gate at Lejuene and the MP looked at me like I was nuts. Stepped back, looked at my license plate(still a MA one at the time) and says.
"Should have guessed you where from the North. Only ones out in this mess"

"this mess" was a light freezing rain.

Not a challenge to drive in at all. And I was driving my x's 67 Camaro convertible at the time.

So y'all close for snow too? I've never heard of a school with no AC. Is that a northern thing? Do y'all never get this hot up there? I know we have friends (DH's Marine buddies) from Ohio and Pennsylvania and they don't have AC in their houses.

We don't get into the 90s for more than a few days typically while school is in session. We don't get out until June 20 this year and we've had our quota for the year thank you very much.

It usually does not get above 90 too much in my area. I think last summer we never even had 1 actual/official heat wave. I love the cold in the winter and i love this heat. It might be difficult.......but it makes you appreciate a normal day

I could not imagine life down south

I used to do landscape work til i got melanoma, and i was so used to the heat.....I swear i would get good bumps on a 90 degree day if i went in the shade. I would never sweat a drop i was so used to it. NOW i am self employed in an air conditioned room (for customers comfort) and i am so spoiled its ridiculous.

You lost me. "Thank you very much" for what?

heh heh, southernchick yep as others have said a lot of schools in the northern climes have 0 AC. Not built for this kind of weather.... and yah, no AC in our house either.

Just checked the forecast and tomorrow, 94, tues 97 with this same humidity!!!! ACK. I am worried for our fish and peeps. Our cats will get thru somehow but if we can't keep the tank cool we will lose the whole lil ecosystem we have going... the tank is already up to 84 and no lights are on, we also swapped out the glass lid for egg crate (grid type thing).

for the peeps I put an ice juice-size bottle in and tonight I set up one of our new 21" barn fans (wasn't thinking I'd have to use that yet!!) . But my big worry is water, I know they will be going through a lot tomorrow, and I have to go to work... grrrrrrrrrrh. I'll be comfortable in the work AC but worrying about everything at home...

Yeah we don't drive in it well because we never have to. This year we got .25 inches of snow and it was melted the next day.

For my chickens I go out a couple of times during the day and wet the ground in their yard. It helps to cool things down a bit.

My lame attempt at sarcasm. We've already had more days of heat and humidity during this school year than I'm happy with.

I get lost very easily. People often ask me if I'm sure brown is my natural hair color.
